What is a Doodle Dog?
These are the most popular poodle mixes, including Goldendoodle, Maltipoo, Shihpoo, Labradoodle, and more, doodle DDL doodles are the best and easiest to train, which is why they are most expensive. However, training is a long road – After saying “speak” for an hour now, scratching him, and saying “Good Boy”, the progress bar is only 1/5 of the way done. The Goldendoodle is a designer dog created by crossbreeding a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. First widely bred in the 1990s.
A Doodle, a fascinating mixed-breed dog, is a unique blend that includes a Poodle in its lineage. The term “doodle” is a delightful addition to any breed name when it’s crossed with a Poodle. For instance, a Labrador mixed with a Poodle becomes a Labradoodle, a Boxer crossed with a Poodle is known as a Boxer doodle, and a Schnauzer-Poodle mix is called a Schnoodle. Each Doodle is a captivating combination of two distinct breeds, making them a breed of their own.

Doodle Dogs: Are Poodle Mixes Truly Family-Friendly?
Pros and cons of different poodle mixes for first time dog owners . As a VA dog trainer, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of doodles: goldendoodles, labradoodles, Aussiedoodles, and more. These unique breeds come in a variety of sizes and colors, all with their signature soft, wavy coats and friendly nature. But are they really as low-maintenance and easygoing as they’re often portrayed?
Doodles are not recognized as an official breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC), and there is no established breed standard for Doodle crossbreeds. Over the past two decades, the demand for Doodles has guided their breeding, with an increasing number of dog owners seeking Poodle crosses, prompting breeders to produce more hybrids.
All About Doodles
All Doodles share one common feature: they have Poodle ancestry. Poodles, often seen as show dogs with extravagant hairdos, have a rich history as versatile working animals. They were initially developed as water-retrievers, bred to assist their owners by retrieving ducks. Their webbed feet, curly coat, and athletic stamina make them excellent swimmers, showcasing their versatility and adaptability.
Poodles, regardless of their size, are intelligent problem solvers adept at figuring things out. Their intelligence is a key trait that sets them apart. Whether of the Standard, Miniature, or Toy varieties, they are active dogs with a lot of drive and energy, making them a joy to be around.
What about the other parent?
Typical Doodles are Poodles and dogs like Labradors, Golden Retrievers, or Aussies. What’s common? Many are working dogs with strong food drives. Mix intelligent Poodles with food-driven dogs, and you get a food-detection expert. Their counter-surfing skills are excellent—they’ll find every crumb unless food is fully secured. Poodles are sensitive, trainable, and eager to please, lacking a strong personal agenda. Mix with a fun-loving, less rule-oriented dog like an Aussie, and get an intelligent, high-energy dog. The characteristics of Doodles can vary greatly, making them a fascinating breed to explore. A bored Doodle will find tasks that you might not enjoy.
Doodle Dogs
Doodle dogs often keep their puppy-like behaviors well into adulthood, each with their unique personality. They love chewing, get excited about meeting new friends, and can be hyperactive even at 5. Families needing a calm, mature dog might find Doodles challenging. They’re unpredictable and can act like big puppies—like the 2-year-old who suddenly chewed up a phone. Doodles likely won’t transform into calm, serious, laid-back adults; their playful spirit lasts a lifetime.

Training your Doodle is vital. No dog can train itself, and this process strengthens your bond.
The first meeting should always be on neutral ground and preferably outside. Walk both dogs parallel to each other and at a distance where they are relax, I am a professional dog trainer for doodle-breed dogs, helping them live happier and safer lives. My Conclusion: After the research, I believe that you can obtain the best results by scratching your doodle 3 times before doing the trick.
I know first-hand how doodles are different. When interviewed about dogs, I’m often asked for low-maintenance breeds. This frustrates me. All dogs want to bond, play, and explore life. A dog might not be for you if you’re looking for minimal effort.
Think of relationships: you wouldn’t want to maintain one with minimal effort. The same applies to dogs. It’s a mutual effort, and your commitment to your dog’s well-being is crucial.
Doodles are high maintenance. They need training, exercise, and socialization to channel their energy positively. Without proper training, Doodles can become unruly and may exhibit destructive behaviors.
Doodles might bark, nip, jump, or exhibit unwanted behaviors without guidance. But you can establish boundaries and guide them through positive reinforcement, rewarding good behavior.
This method empowers you as a trainer and is effective in shaping your Doodle’s behavior. Boost your dog’s happiness with The Doodle Pro’s expert tips on reward-based training, socialization, and behavior management.

What Clients Are Saying About Our Dog Trainers
Auburn has done an incredible job getting to know Rocky individually and tailoring our training to Rocky’s personality and needs. Rocky is a very stubborn boy and can be intimidating but Auburn accepted the challenge and exceeded our expectations. We had to try a few different methods before finding the right fit, but Auburn was patient and persistent and has done a fantastic job teaching my husband and I how to effectively communicate with our big boy. Rocky is now following our lead instead of constantly trying to take charge, he listens to commands even around distractions, and as a result is a much more relaxed and happy boy - big deal for a guardian breed!
Our walks have become so much more enjoyable and we no longer have to repeat commands multiple times to get the desired behavior. As Rocky continues to grow we will keep working with Auburn as needed to fine tune any behavioral issues that might pop up as we go through adolescence and the teenage phase. I couldn’t be happier with the progress we’ve made and feel confident knowing we have Auburn as a resource if any challenges arise as Rocky matures into adulthood.
Selecting a trainer wasn’t something we took lightly considering Rocky’s breed. We couldn’t work with just your average trainer, we needed someone with the knowledge and confidence to handle difficult and powerful dogs. We are more than satisfied with the results Auburn has given us and I’d absolutely recommend his services to anyone looking for help with behavioral issues!
So back he went to Auburn and will be returned to us on Monday.
We cannot say enough good things about Auburn, we agree with his teaching methods and animals love him. When he came to pick up our puppy, Stuart, the minute Auburn spoke is name he ran immediately to Auburn. If Stuart had been mistreated in Auburn's care he would not have been so eager to see him. We say give Auburn a try and we trust that you will be very satisfied with your dog.
