Weitzman’s Story
by Susan Pollard
July 2011
At 35 pounds, half the weight he should be, my Weitzman was
sickly, severely emaciated and almost starved to death. He was in a kill shelter and not slated to make it to 2011. I adopted him in early January 2011, and brought my 3-to-5 year
old Chocolate Pointer/Lab mix home.
Abused and unhealthy, I soon discovered Weitzman had many
bad habits. He would go to the bathroom in the house no
matter how many times you took him outside.
Also, walks weren’t walks. To
him, they were bird field trips where he could drag you down the road. Weitzman was also uneasy when riding in the
car, hyper with lots of jumping when you tried to feed him, and an escape
artist always looking for an open door. He
would walk across the tables in the house, climb over the chairs and sofas
without a thought, and chew on door frames. He had no sense of boundaries; the world was
his toilet and his little boy jungle to do as he pleased.
Immeasurably stressed, I was desperate. He was destroying my home and stressing me
and my family out. I couldn’t take it
anymore, but taking him back to animal control to be put down was not an
option. I researched two dog training
businesses. With prompt email correspondence and a discussion on the phone, Auburn
Leach made a visit to our home in Richmond
to conduct a free evaluation of Weitzman.
Once I met Auburn and saw him interact with my Weitzman, I knew he
was the one to train my dog.
I packed Weitzman up and sent him to Auburn’s
boarding school to get educated! Auburn
was very up front with his assessment and said Weitzman was an especially tough
case. It’s been a long road to travel
and we still aren’t done, but Weitzman would not be this far along if it hadn’t
been for Auburn and his team. Weitzman is now house trained, can walk on a
leash, understands and responds to basic sit and stay commands, doesn’t walk on
furniture anymore, and has more focus on me as his owner responding to the
limits and boundaries I set for him.
This was made possible by Auburn
and his committed K-9 training team.
Through praise, consistency, and patience Auburn
and his trainers have transformed my "jungle boy" into a well behaved
household pet.
My dog was a special case with more problems than can
be named, but Auburn gave me a more than fair price and consistently
checks on us for updates on Weitzman’s progress. With his expertise and knowledge in animal
behavior, his professionalism, and his passion for working with dogs, Auburn is unequivocally the best!
A NOTE FROM AUBURN:
We are extremely proud of Weitzman and Susan. Weitzman worked very hard while he was with us, and Susan has shown admirable patience and dedication to saving this beautiful dog. We hope you will visit your local animal shelter when considering getting your next best friend. Many of the dogs in shelters are brought there simply because the owner cannot control them. With a little training, most dogs can be transformed into worthy and lovable family pets. If you have a problem dog, we can help! Please contact us for an evaluation. We guarantee it'll be worth it!
