Virginia Dog Aggression Training - Canine Behavior Modification - Auburn Leach K9 Solutions - 6

One of the specialties at Auburn Leach K9 Solutions is the behavior modification of aggressive dogs.

Anyone who has been around dogs long enough learns to quickly identify aggressive behavior - growling, bared teeth, ears laid flat, snarling, snapping, and biting.  These behaviors are usually not acceptable to humans, but they are part of how dogs communicate, and the wise owner will learn to read the signs.

Canine aggression should not be ignored.  It is a complex issue that can have multiple causes and serious consequences.  If your dog is displaying aggressive behavior, we recommend you get professional help from someone who understands canine learning theory and behavior.

We work with:

  • Dog to dog aggression.
  • Dog to people aggression.
  • Dog to other animal aggression.

Once we have worked with your dog alone and are confident that the aggressive behavior is no longer a threat, we gradually work mass socialization into the training program.  Under a strict, supervised setting, your dog is introduced to other dogs one step at a time.

Types of Aggression:

Fear-Motivated. Dog perceives he is in danger or threatened.
Redirected. Dog can't get access to the true target, so takes it out on something else.
Dominance. Defending his or her place in the social hierarchy.
Territorial. Protective and possessive of what he perceives to be his territory, people, toys, or food.  Your dog may also chase other animals (cats, chickens, squirrels) out of predatory instinct or as a mode of entertainment.

Causes of Aggression:

  • Injury, illness or pain
  • Fear
  • Frustration due to lack of activity
  • Past abuse
  • Dog is challenged or threatened
  • Possessiveness.
  • Lack of training and established boundaries.
  • Predatory instinct
  • Aggression was deliberately trained into the dog by a person
  • Genetic abnormalities or predisposition
  • Dog is not spayed or neutered
